My name is Lucia Helena Zaremba, but you can call me LHZ. I am a visual artist and photographer.
When I began experimenting with photography and developing my own film in the 80s and 90s, I found endless possibilities in that artwork. As an artist, I have embraced photography and videography as central to the narratives I craft in my art. Over my 35 years practicing photography, I established a career working at the Rio Arte institute of art and culture in Rio de Janeiro. For over 12 years there, my lens captured musical, theatrical, dance and visual arts performances. Those experiences led to my working with digital photography and art videos, experimentation which has expanded the scope of my visual narratives.
My photographs can be found in art books by the sculptor Tunga, such as Barroco de Lírios (1997) and Tunga (2019), as well as in works by the artist Edith Derdyk (1997-2017) and shows by the Lia Rodrigues Dance Company. I have also photographed and edited art videos, for example "Cefalópode Heptópode" by the artist Cabelo or Tunga's performance "Inside Up Outside Down " both of which are part of the same contemporary art exhibition Documenta X ( 1997 ) by Kassel. I also shot and edited the video for "Há Sopas by Tunga and Arthur Barrio, a performance/installation at the Museum of Modern Art in Bahia in 1998, as well as Tunga's "Resgate " at CCBB in São Paulo in 2001. In 2002, as a videographer I shot footage of Paula Nestorov and her dance company's participation in the Lyon Dance Biennale.
For some years now, I have dedicated myself to my original photographic work, exploring a visual aesthetic that mixes images from my travel repertoire - I love traveling - artistic observations, and elements collected online about memory and time. The countless trips I have been on are fundamental to my artistic and personal trajectory. My work is influenced by nature and its elements: a little water, flowers, sand, textures, people, beauty and mystery.
